1. Far Far Away - Tom McNeal

Publication Date: June 11th 2013

Genre: Ghost Story, Fantasy Fiction, Paranormal Fiction, Adventures

Synopsis: In the small village of Never Better, Jeremy Johnson Johnson has been haunted by the ghost of Jacob Grimm since he was a boy. The two have become close friends, but because Jeremy apparently talks to himself and often blurts out strange bits of information, his classmates and the villagers ridicule him. Jeremy's life changes the day wild and beautiful Ginger decides to befriend him. When Ginger invites Jeremy to join her in playing a prank on the town baker, their bond is cemented and Jeremy begins to veer from the careful path of solemn study that Jacob has laid out for him. Ginger comes up with a plan to help Jeremy save his family's bookstore, which launches the two of them on an adventure that may help them solve the mystery of the village's disappearing children -- or lead to their own deaths.

Review: Far Far Away is a wonderfully lyrical book with a nod to the the original traditions of Fairy Tales as told by the Brothers Grimm. I was completely fascinated by Far Far Away. The story slowly unfolded, layer by layer, giving hints and clues about the mystery throughout, but never gave anything completely away. I think anyone who has a love and appreciation for Fairy Tales will enjoy Far Far Away.

It's about some of the very basics morals you'd find in a fairy tale: young adults coming of age, the true meaning of friendship and family, good vs. evil, eternal hope, and the bonds of love.  I believe that adults will appreciate the depth and quality of this story and young adults will love the elements of mystery and horror in it. I found the book Far Far Away utterly enchanting.

2. Looking For Alaska - John Green

Publication Date: December 28th 2006

Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Fiction

Synopsis: Miles Halter is fascinated by famous last words–and tired of his safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet Francois Rabelais called the “Great Perhaps.” Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young. Clever, funny, screwed-up, and dead sexy, Alaska will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.
